His original film is based around two teenagers, betrothed since childhood, who retain their attachment into adolescence. When their family decides to end the relationship, on the basis that it will not be beneficial to the long-term prospects of either, the young couple decide that marriage is the answer to their problem. In his documentary, Davoudnejad introduces us to his film-making process and the actors that give life to these tormented characters. Girl in the Cage is about that Nader and his cousin, Azar, who are in love with each other and are going to get married soon, decide to make a plan for stealing their forefather’s crown and sword from museum. However, Azar’s father believes that to complete their collection, they need the baldric as well. Thus, a new plan is needed. Mohsen, who has been in frontlines, for several years, is a taxi driver now. Once he is transferring a passenger, who is the same person he was looking for; that is, his beloved girl, Narges. They go to their old neighborhood and visit Narges’s mother and brother, named Sohrab. Mohsen reveals that he has been involved in the import and export after the war, but now he is bankrupt and he needs money. Thereby, Sohrab suggests him to take part in stealing the baldric. Sohrab, Mohsen, Nader, Azar, Ezzat and a sixth person start planning for taking the baldric out of the museum. However, Ezzat and Mohsen enter into a conflict and Ezzat divulges that he is a secret agent of the police. During that conflict, Ezzat gets killed and Sohrab, while having the baldric with him, gets away; however, finally he gets arrested in his home, and like others, he is sentenced to imprisonment as well. The interrogator, named Ashoori, as he is looking for the hiding place of the baldric, releases Azar, Nader, and Sohrab separately; thereby, he observes them closely. Narges, having no feelings towards Mohsen anymore, goes to Azar and says that she was in need of money, and to get that money, she had no fear of imprisonment. After being released from the prison, Mohsen looks for Narges and tries to rescue her; thereby, they fall for each other once again. With Mohsen's help, Sohrab reveals the hiding place of the baldric. The persons who work for Nader, are up to killing Mohsen to get the baldric. Meanwhile, Narges is kidnapped. Mohsen helps Sohrab to save his life, and then they go to Nader’s hiding place; that is, the house of Azar’s father. The police, having followed them all this time, surround the house. Through an overlong conflict, the criminals are killed and the police reaches the baldric.
