Fire and Fog is about that Mohammad Khalilzadeh's documentary follows sociology student Farzi Nejad, his professor Dr Patrov, and fellow student Golbano, as they conduct intimate research into Iran's Gilan Province. As he travels through Gilan's mountainous terrain, meeting its people and immersing himself in its culture, Farzi learns broadly about the social history, traditions and agricultural customs of the region. However, the special focus of the film is on the Alam-Vachini ceremony performed there, and a bonfire gathering held before it which celebrates fire as a sign God's cleansing power. These scenes, alongside Farzi's commentary, provide a fascinating insight into a beautiful area of Iran.
