Cold Earth is about that Yousef is a qanat digger and lives with his wife, Tahmineh, who is pregnant, and his son, Ebrahim. They have a simple life together and live in a cottage far away from the city of Bam. Yousef goes to the desert every day; Ebrahim rides a bike to his grandfather's shop in the city to take the milk his mother has milked from their cow and get their needs and then goes to school. One day, when Ebrahim has a flat tire, he meets a pickup truck driver named Shirzad, who puts on stunts in the city but is not very successful. Yousef has also seen his failed show once he had taken Tahmineh to doctor. On an early morning, an earthquake happens and ruins the whole city and everything in its vicinity. Their cottage collapses. Yousef gets seriously injured and Tahmineh is left under the debris. Yousef, who has pulled himself out from beneath the debris, can't pull his wife out because of his injuries. Ebrahim goes to bring help. When he comes back with Shirzad, his parents have passed away, but the cries of a baby can be heard, and he should take care of his sister...
