Mehran goes to him to say goodbye; however, his father treats him coldly and warns him again that Taraneh cannot be a suitable wife for him and that his ignorance of his family’s words surely would be considered in his will. Taraneh knows about the father’s safe, which is in their villa in the north of Iran. Therefore, she convinces Mehran and informs her old friend, Nader, to unlock the safe. Mehran initially opposes this plan; although, when he finds out that he has been disinherited in his father’s will, he agrees to the robbery, which is in fact taking his own share of his father’s wealth. The servant of the villa is an old and curious man, who will prevent them in any possible way. When Nader is unable to unlock the safe, he goes to a blacksmith. After finding out about the plan, the blacksmith claims for his share. The blacksmith’s insistence causes a conflict between him and Nader, through which he gets killed. Mehran and Nader throw the blacksmith’s corpse into the sea. Nader informs two of his friends about the safe; Nader and his friends come to an agreement that after opening the safe, they would equally divide its content among themselves (without including Mehran and Taraneh). However, in the process of opening the safe, Nader enters into a quarrel with his friends as well. Thereby, his friends take everyone, including the servant’s daughter, as hostages. By opening the safe, it becomes evident that there is nothing there. The servant has informed the neighbors about the issue; thereby, he makes Nader and his friends get away from there.
